Boys, look away now

Or ladies not inclined to read anything about "ladies' things" if you know what I mean. I'm not really sure how to go about this, but I think it's so important, I have to mention it on this little blog. I just hope I don't gross you out in the process.

In all started at the end of last year when I read this post over at Marmalade Kiss. This was written in conjunction with a series run by That Little Bit Greener. Now, before I carry on, I would just like to say this: I'm not an eco warrior. I just care about our planet and what I put in my body (and before you ask, crisps don't count). By making one small change, you can reduce the amount of waste you send to landfill on a monthly basis, and you can adopt a habit which is altogether better for both the environment and your body. THIS is what I'm talking about. I won't do a sales pitch for this, if you have a look, it speaks for itself really. I've been using this for just one month now and it's brilliant. It makes me feel so much better about what I have to go through as a woman, and in the long run it will make my wallet feel a little happier too. I don't really want to go into details about why exactly I've found it to be much better than tampons and sanitary towels, I'm not sure I really want to write about these things, but if you have any questions, I'll be happy to answer them in the comments section.

All I want to say is this. If you care about your body and what you put in/ on it, then this will be a no-brainer. If you care about the waste mountains we create every day, then this will be a no-brainer. If you care about our impact on the environment, then this will be a no-brainer. And please, don't tell me that what one isolated person does has no impact. We all have to chip in to get things moving, to get things to change. Our planet and our bodies deserve better.

ps I hope you don't think I'm being all preachy here. I'm only trying to convert more women out there to use this. I can't believe I didn't know about it before and that it took me so long to get round to using it.

I reckon I know what this is without even clicking on the links. And I also know that I am just 100% not ready to convert yet :)

I have been teetering over this purchase ever since Julia posted about it (I didn't have to click the link either!).

Perhaps you've given me that last little extra push - ta!

I have been using this for a couple of years now and think it's fantastic.

Oh, good for you!! I have nothing but praise for you for writing about this sensitive subject, especially since, as one of the writers for TLBG, I have not yet even made that change myself (and it is something I feel guilty about every month!) I have been thinking about it ever since I read the post by Marmalade Kiss but I have doubts about how suitable it will be for me (I intend to discuss this with the nurse next time I go for a smear) gosh, is that too much information?! Anyway, any kind of recommendation or awareness raising has to be a good thing, so well done!

I'm all for reducing land-fill and being greener. Violet was in re-useable nappies until she was nearly two. Lots of washing, but I loved seeing a washing line full of gleaming white nappies.

I'll go and check out your link.

Is it not uncomfortable? To be honest, I try and avoid tampons and pads myself...I just go with the (trying not to be crude) 'uh oh, better get to the toilet quick' method... it works okay if you are on the pill...not so sure if not though...xxx

No, not at all! Once it's in you can't feel a thing! I can't fault it really!

A friend told me about this cup 3 years ago, so I wanted to give it a try, and I really wouldn't go back to tampons and pads now. I think it's really comfortable, and you don't have to worry about buying stuff every month. And the fact that you don't throw anything away is great !!
