Reading

Last year was the year of knitting. I started teaching myself in December 2008, so 2009 was full of experimenting and getting ridiculously excited about yarn. Now don't get me wrong, the excitement for yarn has definitely not died down, far from it, but I've decided to make more room for another hobby of mine, which was sadly put to one side to make more room for the almighty knitting: reading.

I used to read on my commute into London. As I started knitting, the reading slowly faded away. I also found that nothing except knitting actually kept me awake on my evening commute. I'm such a sleeper, put me on a train for more than five minutes and my eyes can't help but close. I'm terrible. Same in cars. Anyway, digressing as usual.

For Christmas, my mum asked me if I wanted anything in particular. She had some ideas of her own, but needed a little help I guess. I asked for some books by Emile Zola. He wrote an amazing number of books which deal with various classes of society across various ages, the Rougon-Macquart series. I read several of these books while at school and then went on to read the few which my local library had in stock. But then it all came to a standstill. So there, I have three new books to read. The books I'd read in the past I'd done in various orders. I want to read these in the order in which they were written. So I'll be starting with La Curée, followed by La Faute de l'Abbé Mouret and finally Le Rêve. I'm excited just thinking about it!!! I know some of you have got reading lists on the go already. What will you be reading in 2010? xx

I have lots of books that I would like to read, in fact, I really would just like to be able to read more during the day, but that is hard with the kids. Ripping Things To Do, is first on my list.

Isn't it nice to have a pile of new books to get stuck into? I have bought a few in the sales and received a few for Christmas, so am looking forward to those. At the moment I'm torn between a serious history of the London Docks and going back to my childhood and re-reading the Wolves of Willoughby Chase.

Looking forward to hear how you enjoy your books - they sound very interesting x

I am determined to read more this year too. I am going to combine reading with trying to learn how to knit properly so I am currently reading Knitting in Plain English to start off with. I will also be doing some research reading for a project I am working on with some friends based on Tycho Brahe the astronomer and no doubt some more Alexander McCall Smith for relaxation reading - bliss! Well, that's the plan anyway.....

I know what you mean! I used to read *all the time* before I started knitting. I've managed to make some more time for reading by not knitting in bed. I've also learnt the knack of holding a book open with my elbows as I knit!

Well I'm glad to see some of you have lots on your reading list!!

Pink Cat, I'd highly recommend any Zola books, if you can find them in English, which I'm sure you must be able to

Suzanne, that is one big plan!! Good luck with the knitting, I found watching videos on the internet was the easiest way to understand for me

Liz, I can't believe you manage that!! lol

I'm back!!!

I don't have a specific reading list but have many many many books on my shelves crying out to be read. I've got 3 on the go at the moment, which I haven't done since I was small, normally I'm a one book at a time girl!

(And I am mocked endlessly for my ability to fall asleep the second I sit on any form of transport! It's not my fault though, I just cannot keep my eyes open!)
