And then there was ash....

I had it all planned out. I'd be sat in my living room, enjoying the oh-so-missed company and familiar surroundings. Cup of tea in hand (because let's face it, I'd have a right difficult time readjusting to the UK temperature), laptop on my lap, merrily typing away. Explaining to you why it is I haven't blogged for so long even though I have had access to Blogger whilst on my little trip abroad. Telling you about how simply and utterly amazing and different this place is.

But that's all gone out the window.

Because I'm still here.

Here in the Middle East.

Not in my little homely comfy Hertfordshire flat. Oh no.

I'm a geologist right, so volcanoes usually get me pretty excited. This particular one is making me terribly sad indeed. I find myself tearing up fairly regularly now. I'm not impressed. Not impressed by how our supposedly sophisticated and technologically advanced societies simply come to a standstill when the atmosphere becomes a little too heavy with dust.

Honestly? I just want to come home now :-(

Firstly, HELLO!!!! I've missed your blogging.
Secondly, HUGE hugs for you for being all stranded and stuff right now. It will be ok. There will be flights again.
I have some friends stuck in Abu Dhabi at the moment (their dad is a pilot for the royal family there) and they were visiting him, due to fly back tomorrow. And now they can't. I wonder if you'll be on the same flight back?

Try not to worry too much, enjoy your extra time over there while you have it (free holiday!), take some more photos. You'll be home soon. Don't worry.
Lots of love x x x x x x x

Oh no! Hope you can get back soon. Horrible when things are so out of your control - and you're right it's really frustrating that technology can be so completely useless. Fingers crossed you can escape soon...

Maybe if we all blow in the same direction, this ash cloud will move?...

I was so excited when I saw that you'd posted a new post. I thought I'd be reading all about your fab time away, but my heart sank when I read that you hadn't been able to get back home.
Hopefully normal flights will resume again very soon and you'll be back in your comfy, familiar surroundings of home in the next few days.
Safe journey home. x

Poor you. But it'll be a great tale to tell a few years down the line. Chin up - try to make the most of it.

The excitement the excitement of it.

And I know you must be really depressed at being stuck there and not being able to come home but I don't even care because YOU JUST BLOGGED!

As lovely as it has been to see the beautifully empty skies here in the UK, I do really feel for those people that are stuck overseas. I hope you get home soon.
